Concordium plans Protocol-Level Locks for January, a MiCA euro and 75 million CCD in grants

At Town Hall #6 on 28 October 2026, Concordium said Protocol-Level Locks reach public testnet in mid-December and mainnet in January 2027, the EURQ euro stablecoin targets mainnet in December, and 75 million CCD will go to builders as grants.

At its sixth town hall on 28 October 2026, Concordium's CEO Boris Bohrer-Bilowitzki set out a roadmap for the next few months. It covers a new protocol feature, a regulated euro stablecoin and a large grant programme in CCD. The talk centred on Concordium's identity layer for AI agents. The other items matter more directly to node operators, delegators and builders.

Protocol-Level Locks: testnet in December, mainnet in January

Concordium plans to add Protocol-Level Locks, which let the protocol itself hold funds and release them only when a job is done, rather than leaving that to smart contract code. According to the recap, Locks will get a security review by CertiK, go to public testnet in mid-December and reach mainnet in January 2027.

For validators, a protocol-level feature on mainnet usually means a protocol update and a new node version. Concordium has not yet published a node release, a protocol update number or an activation date. BitBasic will report them when they are announced.

EURQ, a MiCA-licensed euro, targets mainnet in December

EURQ is a euro stablecoin licensed under the EU's MiCA rules. It is issued by an e-money institution supervised by the Dutch central bank. It is live on Concordium testnet, and the target for mainnet is December 2026. It would be Concordium's first regulated stablecoin, which the recap calls the community's most-asked question.

75 million CCD in grants for builders

Concordium announced 75 million CCD in grants for teams building tools that make AI agents accountable. The programme is invite-led, and the recap says the money will follow real usage rather than pitches. Full terms, including where the CCD comes from and how it will be released, will follow in a separate post. Token holders may want to read those terms when they come out.

Hackathon and developer dates

  • A hackathon opens on 2 November 2026. Teams can build on testnet from 19 November, and submissions close on 9 December.
  • The Agent Kit, a toolkit for registering and verifying agents, is due in beta in mid-November.

Agent activity on the network

According to the recap, 5,040 agents are now registered and six platforms read Concordium's agent registry, up from two. In October, Concordium also announced that XDC AI made it XDC's exclusive identity verification layer, and that it joined the Mastercard Crypto Partner Program. Concordium says nothing from the Mastercard programme is yet scheduled or promised.

What it means for validators and delegators

Nothing changes on mainnet yet, and no action is needed today. Validators should watch for the Locks protocol update and its node release ahead of January. Concordium's validators, paydays and stake are tracked live at https://bitbasic.com/concordium.
