The Graph

The Graph's 10-Subgraph reward rule is live, with 79M GRT still delegated to failing Indexers

Since 27 October 2026, Indexers must serve qualifying queries on at least 10 Subgraphs a day to stay eligible for indexing rewards. On 29 October, 22 of 69 active Indexers were failing, with 79.0M GRT delegated to them.

The Graph Foundation published a two-month review of the Rewards Eligibility Oracle (REO) on 2 November 2026. REO decides which Indexers may claim indexing rewards on The Graph's Subgraph Service. The review confirms that the third and strictest step is now live, and it shows that a large amount of delegated GRT still sits with Indexers that do not qualify.

The 10-Subgraph rule

Since 27 October 2026, an Indexer's day only counts as online if it served at least one qualifying query on each of at least 10 Subgraphs. A qualifying query returns HTTP 200, answers in under 5,000 ms and comes from an Indexer within 50,000 blocks of chain head. The minimum was 1 Subgraph when enforcement began on 25 August and 5 from 6 October. Each change took effect 14 days after it was announced.

Each daily run checks every day still inside the rolling 28-day window against the new minimum, including days before 27 October. An Indexer renewed before the change keeps its eligibility for the rest of its 14-day period, so the Foundation expects the full effect of the step by about 10 November.

Where the numbers stand

  • 47 Indexers were eligible on 29 October, 4 of them in a grace period. Before the step was announced, the Foundation's model projected 42.
  • 22 of 69 active Indexers were failing REO on 29 October, up from 14 on 6 October and 21 on 27 October.
  • During the 5-Subgraph step, 47 Indexers collected 13.36M GRT in indexing rewards, about 636,000 GRT a day.
  • Rewards that cannot be paid now go to a reclaim contract instead of never being minted: 2.83M GRT in the first step and 1.47M GRT in the second, for all reasons combined. The Foundation says no decision has been made on how that GRT will be used.

What it means for Delegators

Delegators earn indexing rewards only through an eligible Indexer. On 29 October, 79.0M GRT was still delegated to Indexers failing REO. Undelegating starts a 28-day thaw, so the Foundation points Delegators to its public REO dashboard to check their Indexer's status.

What comes next

The Foundation says it will watch how the network responds before the next change. One idea raised at Graph Office Hours on 20 October is to scale the minimum with each Indexer's total stake, for example 1 Subgraph per 10 million GRT with a floor. Nothing has been decided. Any change goes into the criteria document and takes effect 14 days later.

BitBasic covered the move of Subgraph Studio traffic onto the network, and the earlier REO steps, in an earlier post. Indexer stake on The Graph is tracked at https://bitbasic.com/the-graph.
