BandChain governance passed proposal 22 on 6 October 2026. It reconnects BandChain to Stride by replacing an expired IBC light client. Voting ran from 1 October 2026 06:09 UTC to 6 October 2026 06:09 UTC. The final tally was about 68.33 million BAND Yes and about 9.86 BAND No, with no Abstain or No-with-veto votes.

## What broke

According to the proposal text, the Stride light client on BandChain, 07-tendermint-169, expired on 17 August 2026. Its last consensus state dated from 5 August, and the 11.9-day trusting period then lapsed without an update. That client backs connection-150, which Stride uses for its BAND liquid-staking host zone. The transfer channel pair is channel-161 on Band and channel-258 on Stride.

While the client was expired, the proposal says, Stride could not operate the BAND host zone at all:

- about 1,060 BAND of completed unbondings were stuck before reaching redeeming users;
- two redemption batches, about 126.6 BAND, could not start unbonding;
- about 44 BAND of rewards sat unclaimed;
- about 513,000 BAND of delegations could not be rebalanced or compounded.

## What the proposal did

The proposal contained one message, `MsgRecoverClient`. It replaced the expired client with 07-tendermint-397, a new Stride client with the same parameters. This is the standard IBC client recovery procedure. The proposal states that it moves no funds and grants no new privileges. This was not a software upgrade, so validators did not have to change their nodes.

The same client has been recovered before. Proposal 18 in January 2026 swapped in 07-tendermint-380.

## What it means

- **Stride stBAND holders and BAND delegators through Stride:** with the client replaced, the stuck redemptions and reward claims could resume through IBC. The proposal does not say when Stride would process them.
- **Validators:** no action was needed. Clients that are not refreshed within their trusting period expire and need governance to recover, so relayers on the route need to keep updating the client.
